Free Directorate of Izeran
“With conquering the realms of knowledge, comes the conquering of our greatest fear.”
Biology
Izerians are a slight modification on traditional humans originating in another universe. Aside from their more naturally pale complexions, seeing as albinism is more common amongst them than their Earthling contemporaries, they are functionally identical to humans on Earth. They are much, much shorter than humans, however.
Government
Government Type
Within the Free Directorate, there is ironically very little freedom for the population, small as it is. Following their expulsion from the Vulterra Galaxy into G-S16, it didn’t take but a week for the greatest generals and scientific minds to take control of the remnants of what was once the greatest scientific endeavor of their home universe. The complete setup of the “provisional” government of the Free Directorate is made up of 3 general political blocs within the junta. Given the tiny population of the FDI, the levels of bureaucracy involved in government operations has been sheared down massively, as did the size of the government, to the point where the three major blocks have significant control over the smaller portions of the government, nearing direct control.
Economic Block - Consisting of the most talented financiers and economists that the FDI managed to bring along with them to G-S16, the Economic Block is focused primarily on making a stable foundation for the FDI to have a long-term presence in the galaxy. Their economic ideals focus heavily on exporting their armed forces in one way or another as mercenaries for the time being and exporting the technologies the FDI has access to the other powers within the galaxy for a hefty premium until their industrial base can be built up.
Militaristic Block - Consisting of the military branches of the FDI, the militaristic block is what you expect it to be. Extreme advocacy of the expansion of the military’s size, supporting the Scientific Block’s experiments as their results can further the weapons of war the Militaristic Block desires, and trying to push the boundaries of what the economy can support.
Scientific Block - As the block consisting primarily of the scientific directorates, the Scientific Block mostly attempts to further its own discoveries at near limitless cost. In constant headbutting with the Civilian Block over the appropriate scale of experiments, and working side-by-side with the Militaristic Block to develop new weapons and further older technologies, the Scientific Block is on par with the other two blocks in terms of power. It promotes a more moderate economic growth structure, not exactly worried with a large or small economy.
Leader(s)
Each of the directors serve as their own “president” of their respective departments, chosen by their accomplishments in that respective field. Whether you begin your journey through life in a tiny “apartment” in the holds of one of the colony ships or within the bridges of the most luxurious research vessels, all have the same goal- to advance the knowledge and progress of their nation. With this unifying goal, even throughout the extreme competition in the scientific fields, progress is steady and fast.
Economy
Economic System
As resources and men are so limited within the FDI, there is simply not the room to allow private entities within the Directorate to run rampant with technology they don’t understand nor wreak havoc with the few people still remaining within the Directorate’s few colony ships. As such, any and all business of the Directorate is conducted through the Directorate itself. The severe shortages of resources and manpower within the FDI cause massive amounts of economic strain, therefore, the few resources the FDI has, it must distribute in order to reduce waste.
Important Industries
Without a strong industrial base to speak of, the Directorate must adapt to the new universe it finds itself. Onboard its few mobile refineries and mining vessels, the reclamation process of “impure” hard light for export occurs, which is a substance that has a lot of the properties of hard light though the crystalline lattice is significantly weaker, though this is more of a stopgap until the Directorate can establish a reliable income source. Another primary export, or at least a planned export, would be their developments in power armor and other such combat-enhancing technologies, including drugs. While frowned upon in their use, nobody’s going to complain about generating what little income they can for the time being.

Culture
Overview
As a heavily meritocratic society, competition among the citizenry in order to get into the upper echelons of society is extremely fierce and sometimes treacherous. Mediocrity gets you nowhere in society, so an extremely hard-working attitude is common and leads to some interesting ramifications. As a capable person depending on the field commonly requires an obscene amount of dedication, it’s uncommon for family lineages to even appear in governance as those who reached the “top” as those in government are much too dedicated in their work to raise a family. However, sometimes, being able to juggle competent advances in science or military brilliance with maintaining a family is seen as someone who is desired because of their versatility. A common practice among scientific families is to mold their children into having a very lacking moral sense compared to “normal” families - this is part of a very long-term experiment by the scientific directorate to generate a steady supply of researchers for their heinous experiments, which include extreme long-term isolation of individuals or sample populations, testing nerve-altering gasses which annihilate one’s perception of reality and inducing them into a permanent hallucination, and especially kidnapping and forcing non-human species through batteries of tests to identify how they function and studying them.
Philosophy/Religion
Religion is a complicated subject within the FDI. Most people are too focused on furthering their own lives and their pursuits of knowledge to give credence to the idea of an overarching entity or entities which control their lives, but some take this idea of furthering their own and society’s knowledge far enough to be considered religious dogma.
Hierarchies, Classes, Castes
A very, very clear social divide is present between those in positions of military or scientific importance and those who are not. An elitist attitude among the former is not uncommon, though it isn’t to the point of excluding those who make it to those ranks as it takes legitimate effort to do so.
History
The FDI is a provisional entity formed after they were expelled from their home universe through an unstable wormhole. The experiments they performed on their fellow men were like those mentioned earlier, except on a much, much larger scale and including other non-humanoid species, as their original nation was a confederation of 5 or 6 different species. It was also uncovered from a galaxy-wide investigation into the 4 systems the FDI controlled that the military budget allocated to them from the other confederation members was being put directly to these experiments.
Following their expulsion from their home universe, they managed to scrounge together barely enough to survive a few years, let alone establish themselves in order to continue their existence. Their manpower supply to perform experiments and form an army is significantly kneecapped as a result of only being able to “evacuate” a few cities of a few planets before the rest of the Confederation came crashing down and expelled them. As such, a technocratic junta was established, and the FDI itself was formed.
When they arrived at the outskirts of G-S16, within the R-5 sector, they managed to find a suitable habitable planet to begin their operations. A mobile starbase they managed to bring along serves as their headquarters, and repopulation attempts are being attempted on the planet’s surface with the prefabricated housing serving as beacons of hope for this nation.
Military
Branches
There are two primary branches of the Directorate’s confined military operations, their army and navy.
Doctrines
Army
With limited manpower and abundant technology, the Directorate cannot exactly conduct traditional military campaigns, as such they are limited to expeditionary and volunteer operations where their stockpiles of technology form a backbone of a brutal spearhead-type of warfare where they are always the tip of the spear, slicing through enemy lines and rushing to capture enemy supply points and objectives of strategic importance before they can formulate an effective response. Some would call the Directorate’s operations to follow “the cult of the alpha strike.”
Navy
In order to make the most of their remaining assets, the FDI tries to annihilate their enemy’s smaller vessels through the use of their extensive naval weaponry before their capital ships can get involved into the thick of combat. At the start of the engagement, the RKKV-equipped ships fire off at the enemy capital line, to suppress them with the potential of being gutted by these weapons, while they clean up the escorts and then fall back, attempting to lure the now exposed enemy capital line to a defensive station packed with many, many RKKV missiles to overwhelm their defenses.
