Name: Revived Scavengi Technocracy
History:
The Scavengi are an elderly species, originating from a far off star cluster, they rested near its core as a growing insectoid race, reaching FTL at a startling pace, though their expansion beyond was slow. the Scavengi always had troubles internally, a titanic population and an ever growing ecumenopolis city planet caused large amounts of internal chaos, wars in the lower levels never seeing the light of day. Throughout this, the Scavengi retained one thing above all else, a love for invention and innovation, technophiles by instinct. As tech continued to increase, eventually one of the ever famed Engineers, the group that now run the remnants of the Scavengi, had found a way to convert one’s consciousness into a nigh immortal machine, causing what would amount to a synthetic ascension across the entire species. With the need for food, water… air, and other Such things largely removed (though still technically possible with modifications), the internal violence began to decrease, and faces turned abroad. They had done this much with just their home… what can be done elsewhere? So the Scavengi booted up their early FTL’s, designed new vessels, and made way for the stars. For the next nearly thousand years the Scavengi has evolved and expanded, getting themselves a hold of a sizable 26 systems, a population easily in the quadrillions, spread out in huge industrial hive planets. they were one of the most advanced species in the cluster. They had hit the borders of many other species as well, the titanic empire of the vassicari, and the ever isolated “Chosen”. What a foolish name that was… though things still were calm. Until… somthing happened within the chosen’s borders. A breakthrough of some kind, some looney prophecy turned true. And the chosen, in all their religious zealotry, took it as a sign… their name was fact now. And the others will know that. For 5 years the Scavengi and the vassicari were stuck under siege from the chosen, alongside the other species of the galaxy, the azure, and the watchers, smaller but staggeringly advanced much like them. the Scavengi themselves were faring well, their hive planets were rapidly turned into superfortresses and their obscene industrial capacity meant hundreds of warships and battlestations were online across the entire front. They had finally made a breakthrough at this time, a weapon that would be able to start their counterattack against the chosen. A titanic antimatter Lance mounted on a cruiser, taking up nearly the entire ship… it could potentially destroy one of the chosens colossal dreadnaughts, their flagships, in a single shot… it would be the end to the war if they could get it into action. it would only see combat once, before a new chosen assault commenced. “The Riptide”, the antimatter Lance carriage was resting in orbit of the Scavengi capital with a significant fleet when suddenly many of their border worlds went dark. then a chosen fleet arrived in the capital. They were confused, but got into action, cannons firing and the Lance quickly causing a pair of enemy cruisers to cease existance… but then there were heavy impacts sensed across the hull. The shields were still up… how did kinetic weapons get through? guns began to fall silent as the crew collapsed, cloaked chosen boarding parties began to pump in a gas weapon designed to counter the Scavengi, sticking to the metal and their odd internals and shutting it all down, forcing the entire fleet into a coma like state. The last thing many Scavengi saw was the first fireballs erupting on their capital’s surface before they blacked out, and the fleet went into emergency FTL jump. an old Scavengi civilian freighter that was carrying those who escaped the capital came with them. For nearly 50 years the fleet was silently drifting through the cosmos, before recently, the virus decayed and stopped. They woke up slowly, but when they did they were faced with a completely different planet. A barren desert world… their starmaps had no idea where they were, navigations showed them hundreds to thousands of light years away… this was a new galaxy. Their old home… they could never reach it again. The ships got their bearings, as much as they could, and made landing, crews dismounting. this meager group was alone in this new galaxy, they knew nothing, and they had lost everything they had ever known. this new era for the Scavengi would be perilous, but they will not progress by backing down. So they made this their home, this small desert world in the north of the galaxy’s IQ-3 sector, a planet they have dubbed “Valorus II”, after their old capital.
Species:
The Scavengi biology is interesting. By default they are a small cyan crystal with various small tendrils that can act like veins, they can move but it is extremely difficult and slow. However, they have an interesting additional thing they can do, interface and effectively “fuse” with mechanical bodies, ranging from small 3ft worker drones to titanic war mechs or heavy lifting devices. There is an upper limit to this, roughly 20 meters tall, before multiple different Scavengi are needed to control it. Still this gives them plenty of options. This physiology also allows them to split off small chunks of their body to remotely control other objects, usually in the form of closely hovering extra arms or weapons. The basic Scavengi body is around 3’5, with a cyan blue visor eye on a square head, a thin body with 2 arms and 3 legs, capable of climbing most surfaces even, upside down. The Engineers and many officers or major players have custom bodies, and common Scavengi are completely allowed to modify theirs as they wish. they do not require air, and only require very low quantities of a nutrient water to stay alive, though they can still eat normally with some modifications. They are also capable of temporarily shutting down their bodies, which puts them into a coma like state they cannot escape without assistance, but also means they will never die of starvation or age in that state.
Their bodies are usually orange, a byproduct of the metal they make nearly everything out of, or simply of rust.
Government:
The current government is an oligarchy of the surviving engineers, 3 in particular, who try to help the remaining Scavengi recover. It’s not exactly well defined at the moment, but the species looks up to them for their achievements, and will follow whatever they decide upon.
Important figures:
0-01 Engineer “Alaphadron”
The engineer responsible for discovering the synthetic ascension technique, Alaphadron is the current oldest surviving Scavengi in existance, and is often seen as the defacto monarch. He leads the innovation and reconstruction of Scavengi society and cities along their new world.
0-02 Engineer “Baron”
The admiral of the fleet that transported them all here, Baron is a major military leader of the old Scavengi empire, who is credited with many of their ship classes designs. He is the primary military leader for the state.
2-01 Engineer “Seraphim”
The first model in a brand new line of engineers, seraphim is young by the standards of these greats, but not to a fault. She is more socially adept than the others, having lead the evacuation of many civilians on the capital and the reason many are still alive here, she is in charge of diplomacy and exploration in this strange new galaxy.
Culture:
The Scavengi are technophiles incarnate, their culture does not believe in many religions, rather it sees technology as the pride of any species, and respects it above all else. Many of the Scavengi’s ruling cast is decided by those who can invent the most groundbreaking new device or material, though on a few rare occasions others have been promoted to that rank.
technology and innovation is what they will look for first in anyone they find. A Scavengi will constantly expand and decorate its small home or hive hole, to show off what it can accomplish and how much it can do, with many Scavengi getting into contests with neighbors to make the flashier abode. As insectoids they are still very capable of working together though, when it is needed Scavengi can produce and design at a faster speed than nearly any other race, working together like ants on a titanic scale to accomplish things. the benefit of the empire at large is always expected over personal gain when it is required.
Economy:
With the fall of the scavengi’s empire, their economy basically doesn't exist.
When the new capital can fix itself it may yet return, but at the moment the economy is based around bartering and trade, whatever a Scavengi can make themselves is what decides if they are rich or poor.
Technology:
The scavengi’s old technologies pertaining to weapons remain intact within their relic fleet, but due to the fleet being a military one and therefore not carrying things like blueprints, they cannot replicate these for a very long period of time, not until they can rebuild proper infrastructure both stellar and ground, and get the time to reverse engineer chunks of their vessels. These old relic vessels use primarily kineto-plasma weapons or plasmic lance(fancy beam) weaponry and Plasmic shielding.
Their current military and new vessels they are attempting to make to not reach nearly this level, brandishing basic kinetic weapons, durasteel and common energy shielding, making anything besides the relic vessels significantly underpowered by comparison to many other nations.
VAPLUS STEEL
Vaplus steel is a intense alloy made from Vaplus, the material the scavengi’s “Normal” bodies are made from, Steel, and tungsten, invented for starships to use to keep themselves safe in the void. Extraordinarily durable, but also extraordinarily heavy, it limits most Scavengi vessels to a certain speed lest they lose control and slam into an asteroid attempting to stop this titanic brick’s velocity. This metal has made many Scavengi vessels less reliant on mobility but being artillery vessels, large long range weapons coating their hulls with fighters handing closer ranges.
KINETO-PLASMA
The Scavengi’s way of getting around plasma or other energy/heat based weapons dissipation in space, though primarily plasma, Kineto-plasma is pretty self explanatory. Its a specialized shell for most kinetic weapons which holds a plasma charge within, which detonates on impact, giving both the force of a lighter kinetic impact and the explosive acidic plasma burst shortly after, which will splash directly on, or if the kinetic makes it through fast enough, inside of the enemy vessel. While not extremely high tech, its decently effective.
PLASMIC SHIELDING
Shielding on the relic vessels is done by a series of magnetic field generators across the ship that solidify plasma into thick barriers to intercept incoming fire, absorbing plasmic weapons into the shield and incinerating kinetic weapons. This does have a noteworthy drawback however, due to it needing to be down, or atleast have a gap for the defending ship to fire through, the shield is extremely ineffective against Laser or lightspeed weaponry, which can pierce through and hit the hull before the shield has time to form in defense.
Military:
The military is largely without its command or a functioning doctrine at this time. Baron is the only high commander of the military left, with the rest being minor ship captains and the rear admiral “Corazon”, baron’s second in command. As such there is not much to say here beyond the current listings of their fleet, elderly vessels from years passed, they are the only Scavengi navy vessels that retain the uniquely high tech they once had.
The ship designs all share similar features, a primary rear section, and 1-3 “Bars” that stretch out hundreds of meters past this section in a straight line, and are the most heavily armored parts of the vessel. From there, different secondary parts can be attatched to the ship, sliding back along these bars and creating an insanely modular design.
- BACRONTANA CLASS BATTLESHIP
The largest vessel of the Scavengi navy and their strongest ship by far, the bacrontana is obscenely durable and very heavily armed, with dozens of both plasma and kinetic heavy weapons across its hull with many fighter hangars on the broadsides. It’s primary weapon is 4 “tri-plasma Lance cannons”, gigantic plasma beam turrets that have a shorter range but titanic damage, to quickly make scrap of any vessel that gets to close, giving the ship its range advantage back.
Two examples of this ship exist currently, the “Silverike” and the “Hammer down”
- RIPTIDE CLASS ANTIMATTER LANCE CARRIAGE
About the size of a cruiser by Scavengi standards, it’s armament is very small, little more than point defense, beyond the primary gun. Its main cannon struggles to aim at anything more than large capital ships, and has a significant recharge time, but if it hits, it will instantly spell the doom of most vessels. This antimatter weapon is expensive though, and its ammunition is limited. Only 6 Antimatter charges still remain in the vessel's reinforced ammunition deck, and new charges will be… insanely hard to make, effectively giving them a permanent limit on shots.
Only one example exists, the “Riptide”, first of its class.
- SCAVANGER CLASS HEAVY CRUISER
Imposing and coated in guns, the scavanger is very similar to the larger bacrontana, though focusing more on a hail of fast firing plasma weaponry than the larger single cannons of the battleship. there’s little to say about it.
Three examples currently exist, “Scavenger”, “Hecate’s spear” and “Surgegate”
- FORAGER CLASS CRUISER
More medium sized and with the largest variety of weapons among any Scavengi vessel, the forager is their go to exploration vessel, with a large carrying capacity, capable radar systems, and a decent arsenal of guns and missiles, the forager lives up to its name with ease.
Two examples currently exist, the “Centurion” and “Founder”
- RUPTURE CLASS HEAVY FRIGATE
Functioning as a heavy escort, the rupture is coated in point defense and missiles, with a secondary bridge that focuses on medium range sensor equipment to enable the ship to work with other ruptures or PD ships to intercept enemy fighters and missile attacks.
Five examples of this ship currently exist.
- DELTAC CLASS GUNSHIP
The smallest of Scavengi vessels at the moment, it’s the fastest and least armored vessel in their lineup as well, not just due to their size but due to their purpose as scouts and escorts. With many light cannons or autoguns along their hull, their purpose is to absolutely annihilate fighters or smaller corvettes before they can reach the fleet, or atleast give them an early warning.
Twelve examples of this ship currently exist.
